Although healthcare's initial foray into the cloud was rocky, to say the least, the industry has now had time to adjust to the technology and its benefits. Not only does the cloud offer more flexible pricing than on-premises systems, but it can also provide healthcare organizations with greater storage options, improved cybersecurity and advanced analytics for health data.

Cloud for healthcare also relieves the pain of managing and upgrading multiple systems by relinquishing some of the maintenance to the service provider while allowing hospitals and clinics to continue their daily operations.

In the U.S., the market for healthcare cloud computing is projected to reach $55 billion in 2025, compared to $20 billion in 2018, according to a report by Global Market Insights. The report also noted that clinical information systems made up about 62% of the healthcare cloud computing market in 2018, as organizations turn to the cloud to store the tremendous amount of data generated by healthcare providers each year.
